My Story
Everybody has a story. Everyone has a journey. What I want to share; what I need to share to help move myself forward; out of the past and into the future is this. Depression can steel your joy but it doesn’t have to. If truth be told I have two sides to me. One side is the creative decorator and the other is my spiritual side. Over the last 3 years or so I’m not sure where one begins and the other ends.
Bell Lets Talk Day
January 27th ~ Mental Health is so important, my thoughts for #BellLetsTalk
You know I don’t think there’s a person who hasn’t gone through some sort of depression in their lives, whether they realize it or not. I certainly have for many years and it’s not something that we really talk about in society. I think that is changing though. The thing to remember when dealing with depression is that it’s not something that is so visible to the naked eye. Something to remember and to be compassionate and understanding with friends and family if they are going through it. Worse thing you could say to someone who is depressed or suffering from depression is ‘ just snap out of it’ …. #begoodtoyourself and others.
Really everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about 🙂

~ Milestone Birthday’s ~
For my 50th Birthday I just wanted to feel the sand in my toes, listen to the sound of the waves and feel the sun on my face. So my wish came true, what a beautiful day. There was one other person at the beach so my husband and I basically had the place to ourselves and boy was it a beautiful September day! One of us went skinning dipping won’t say which one of us 😉
How to Makeover a Spare Room
This is the final room in my bedroom makeover series in our house. Over the last 7 years we have taken part in being a Host Family for International Students. We have enjoyed having kids from different parts of the world come and stay with us while they learn English and attend the local High School. The newest member to our family is from Ankara,Turkey and we’re excited to have him live with us for the year! That being said we wanted to redo the spare room that would now become his room. This room is usually made up for the students that we have. Although last year…
The Boy’s Room Makeover
“The Boy’s (our son) room makeover”
Sad, sad, sad Before’s. Poor kid was living in a haphazard state of affairs in his room. Since we bought the house back in 2006 the paint colour has never been changed. Now falling off the walls and looking quite messy. It was time to tackle his room and give him something that suited him more then just the mish mash of things thrown together. The whole idea was to give him the larger room since he was getting older and needed a more grown up space. That’s when I decided to do the ol’ switch a rooo. He was going into the larger room and his sister was taking over his old room. (more…)
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure Part One
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure ~ PART ONE ~
Where to start! Here’s the design transformation. Starting at the beginning. Follow me along as I show you how to take one messy garage from a dumping ground to a newly used functional space. Basically the garage or ‘BARN’ as we call it here in Cape Breton was a huge hot mess, a real catch all space. I needed a place to store my supplies and do projects. Imagining how the “Barn” could look if it was cleared out and renovated was exciting. Not sure about other Interior Decorators but my office has been in multiple rooms in our house. Getting shuffled around from upstairs, downstairs to putting materials in the basement and attic it was well….. frustrating to say the least. Here’s a short video of me in the ‘hot mess’ and where it all started. ~ What the Barn looked like ‘Before’ the Re-design. ~ (my son was behind the camera taking the video 😉 ) (more…)
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure Part Two
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure ~ Part Two~
Couldn’t wait to get the floor finished so I could move onto the next stage of fixing up the interior and put up some much needed shelving for the rest of the studio. We had some delays because of weather but once the floor was done it was onward and upward. When I see the empty space it revealed a couple of cool features that I couldn’t see before (more…)
“The Barn” 2 Doors & A Window
“The Barn” Trash to treasure story of two doors & a window
I was so happy to get rid of the old crapy broken garage door. My original idea was to have two french doors placed in the large opening but that proved not to be the solution that would finally come about. It was not being able to find some and I needed to keep the budget down so when these two doors came to me free of charge. Let me back up, Johnny the concrete guy told me about some clients that had two doors that they were getting rid of and I should call them. I guess I did, really nice couple renovating their basement and didn’t need the doors anymore. When I went and saw them (more…)
“The Barn” Getting Organized
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure Getting Organized
STEP FIVE: Time for getting organized and loading pieces into place. Remember that old table that was in the back of the barn, the one that someone said ‘that’s junk why would you want to keep that’. Well here’s why it’s the perfect size to separate the space in the barn. Although the shape and size was perfect the appearance didn’t look so hot.

“The Barn” Everything from A to Z
“The Barn” Trash to Treasure Everything from A to Z
STEP SEVEN: Decorating the shelves with the treasures that I’ve found, reclaimed, items leftover from my house and ready to be placed in a new home. You just need some imagination to use old items in a new way. Most of these items have either been collected over time or been in my family. I love using pieces or objects in a different way other then their intended original use. When I’m doing (more…)
