The Great Debate: Upper Cabinets vs Open Shelving
One of the most important things to consider when designing your kitchen is how you like to live in your space. It’s all fine and dandy to make something look beautiful but if it doesn’t function they way you live in your space then the formula doesn’t work. For us looking at the new space and making it much more open and airy we came to the conclusion that the best look would be to skip the upper cabinets and have it more open. Actually we are doing just two upper cabinets; one on each end!
Here’s some inspiration, in favour of no upper cabinets, if you are thinking about this for your own kitchen renovation!
Kitchen Renovation Progress ~ Day 3 ~
They say it has got to get messy before it gets better and kitchen renovations are no exception. It’s day 3 of the renovations and things thankfully are trucking right along. We still have our sink as of this afternoon but the contractor gave the head’s up that it will be coming out tomorrow. One more day that we don’t have to use our itty bitty sink in the powder room. YEAH!!!! Check out the progress so far …
Revealing another use for a Postmaster Cabinet
How to Repurpose a Antique Postmasters piece of Furniture
As it stands right now this antique pine postmasters cabinet is being used in the living room. The cubbies provide so much valuable storage space its handy for various items. Here it was first being used as a toy container for ‘bits’ and ‘pieces’ and ‘what the heck does this belong to’ storage unit. Originally, used for sorting mail back in the day; it was bought in Ontario and passed down to me from my parents. I always loved this piece and when I was in the design phase for planning the kitchen remodel I thought, this could be used as a Upper cabinet. Since there will only be two upper cabinets in the remodel, this will really bring some character to the overall look of the project. Lucky for us the dimensions fit perfectly.
Can’t wait to see it on the wall!
Renovating a Galley Style Kitchen : Before | Messy Middle | Dreaming of After…
If you would like to see a kitchen renovation from start to finish, follow me along as I show you how to renovate a Galley style kitchen. Here’s part one of my kitchen series. It all starts with the ‘before’ pictures …
Our old and dated ‘before’ Kitchen. This old house use to be ‘The Manse’ to the United Church of Sydney. As you can see it’s a Galley Kitchen. One of the considerations when designing your kitchen is the overall look and feel and of course how the footprint is going to change or not change! You have to have a design plan before you hire your contractor. First things first, lets have a look at what our kitchen looked like ‘before’….
My first v-log …
Hi, this is me 🙂 Trying out a vlog or video blog. Here’s my first test video and preamble to our Kitchen renovation. I debated on whether to post this or not, because when I view it I can see about 100 things I could have said differently or changed but you know what… If I tried it again there would still be something I wouldn’t like and I would keep recording until it was perfect and what’s the charm in that.
Canvas Conversations 2016
Last month on Feb. 25th I was lucky enough to be asked to participate in this year’s Canvas Conversations with ‘The Art Room‘ @ The New Dawn Centre For Social Innovation. It was a night to remember! So well received with everyone that attended, bid, painted and encouraged by the Emcee Wendy Bergfeldt, Auctioneer Larry MacLean and musicians Janet Bickerton, Ralph Dilton and of course all the artists!
The Canvas Conversations 2016 was in Support of Transition House Foundation and The Art Room. Anyone that knows me knows that I’ve been a volunteer for The Transition House Foundation for many years and the last two years I have occupied the seat of President. Really I’m honoured to be with such great women who are on the board. That’s how I came to be included in this years event along with so many other Great Capers who contribute to our community in so many ways. The proceeds raised from Canvas Conversations went in part to the Transition House here in Cape Breton. Last year it was Access 808 for at-risk youth. The whole idea behind Canvas Conversations is to take time to consider the need for timely support of women and children exposed to domestic violence and ‘Start a conversation’….
Currently Coveting Green
I thought I would share more of my love for green and specifically Green Couches. Thoughts of having a upstairs to the studio sparked some ideas around ‘Green couches’ and of course today being St. Patrick’s Day I’m also thinking green but really I love green all year long not just today. So with that here’s an array of Great Green Couches I love the look of! We’re talking all things green ……Which one is your favourite?
All things Irish & Green for St. Patrick’s Day
I love St. Patrick’s day. It may be because my favorite color is green, or it may be because my grandmother is from Ireland which makes me part Irish. Red hair and green eyes can’t get more Irish then that.
Come on up to my virtual Pub and lets talk St. Patrick’s Day over a pint. It’s all things Irish, Green & St. Paddy’s Day for March 17th.
