Here in Cape Breton there’s still snow on the ground uggg and some cold nights but eventually warmer days will prevail and when that time comes it will be nice to freshen up your house to reflect what’s going on outside. No time like the present to get your home ready for some Spring spruce ups! The changing seasons always makes me want to switch things up around my house. If you’re finding yourself in a similar frame of mind, I hope these tips on how to freshen up your home for spring give you the inspiration to start fresh in your home. Don’t know about you, but I’m ready for Spring! I’ve over you winter lol and thinking of fresh spring air, no winter coats and fresh breezes.
Let’s Get to it, here’s some Ideas to get you Started
- START WITH THE ENTRANCE
Hey Capers did you see this one? With Spring weather on the way that means fresh rain, muddy boots and lots of fun. Ok maybe not so fun with mud coming into the house but that’s why you need a good matt. No better way to freshen up the front step then with a new one! This one is from Home Apparel in Turo Nova Scotia. Love their ” NEW high quality coir mats will proudly welcome everyone into your HOME! Made from high quality coir (coconut) material, with a rubber back to protect against water and wear. Measures 45x75cm in size.”
2. PILLOWS, PILLOWS, PILLOWS
Think of your colours, texture and style. Are your pillows old, outdated and screaming winter. Time to change them up and this is one easy way to freshen your home for the coming warmer days and longer nights. Nothing says Spring like these classic Blue and White “East Coast Lifestyle” pillows. Mix them with warm whites and cool creams and your good to go.
3. RUGS
Another easy way to switch your space from winter to spring is changing up your area rugs. Personally I love the idea of using indoor/outdoor rugs inside your living room. It’s practical and so works if you have kids and pets (which I do and maybe you do too) This one is fresh, clean and again classic in the blue and ivory stripes! Another reason to love it, it’s eco-friendly, durable, and washable! Great for high-traffic areas throughout your house. Now if your spring choice of colours is different then blue and white, no worries, pick a spring colour that goes with your existing house. Maybe it’s green, maybe it’s yellow just pick something that feels bright and cheerful for you.
4. SWITCH UP YOUR ARTWORK/PHOTOGRAPHY
We always have lots of pictures that we rotate and funny how they get switched around the house over the year. Do you have that favourite winter scene that hangs above the fireplace, replace it with something that has a spring theme. Think water, breezes, sand and surf; something that will give you that spring/summer feeling when you look at it. Take a photograph of your favourite beach scene, enlarge it and frame it for a personalized look. Here’s three photographs (taken by yours truly lol) that evoke that warmer days are coming feeling! You don’t have to replace all your art just the predominant ones that are a focal point. Photo below of al living room that has that fresh springtime feeling!
5. FRESH & PRETTY FLOWERS
It’s a simple as going to the grocery store or your nearest flower shop! Don’t wait for a special occasion to bring fresh blooms into your house. Make ANY day special and get the gift of fresh smelling flowers. Pretty and so easy to perk up your coffee table, kitchen table, counter or dinning room buffet. Use a vase, glass jars or some unique container to put them out. They just brighten up your home and make you happy!
