Living Room ‘Before’ and ‘Afters’!

Living Room Redesign ‘Before’ and ‘After’s

It started with the painting of some of the major rooms in our house and sprang from there.  Once the painting was underway in other rooms in the house we got to the living room which needed a much needed colour spruce up. Actually our living room has undergone many transformations, our house is ever evolving lol but here’s the last before’s I have.

Here’s some of the ‘Before’ Living Room

The Tragically Hip that was in the living room but got relocated to the dinning room

The Armoire used to be on the opposite wall then we got bored and changed the room around so the Armoire was under the piano window lol

This bookcase got a redo and now fits perfectly in our daughters room.  Always re-using, re-inventing and re-loving furniture in our house.

The colour on the living room wall was the same colour when we moved into our house and it was ok for the longest time then after redesigning other rooms in the house this colour was just not jiving anymore with the rest of the house.   I wanted to change up the colour to Revere Pewter HC-172 by Benjamin Moore and also change up the red on the fireplace.  I picked the red more then a couple of years ago but now that the rest of the walls in the living room were being painted I wanted to change this as well.

Take Away Tip: Paint is such a inexpensive way to change up your space. You can repaint the room for a instant pick-me-up and it won't break the bank.

This fireplace wall had so much potential to have floor to ceiling bookcases!  Getting them made and installed made the room instantly feel bigger.  It’s just the in-between stage that gets messy.  If you can gear yourself up to the mess it’s not so bad.  Move all your furniture to the centre of the room when your painting and or move the furniture to another room to make space to move around until the time comes when you put everything back into place.  First the bookcase was moved out of the way so I could paint the back wall before the install of the shelves.

Then painted the fireplace wall this rich dark chocolate called ‘Jack Black’ from Benjamin Moore and I didn’t even mind the colour of the fireplace once the dark paint colour was up but in the end decided on painting it the same colour as the trim.  Two coats to really let it sink in.

Finished the second coat and then the shelves got installed .. Woohoo what a difference.

more painting ohhh will it ever end lol

During Living room

After everything was put back what a difference.  The room feels much more spacious and I had a lot of fun styling the shelves.  Putting the tv above the fireplace made a huge difference and the rearranging of the furniture to make room for the Christmas tree it was finally feeling like a home again.

Breaking up our old sectional really did the trick.  Two of the middle sections were separated and put on either side of the fireplace and we made the sectional smaller.   Eventually we’ll get a new sofa but for now it is what it is and to be honest I don’t mind it now that there’s a new colour on the walls.  It fits the room for our needs right now and when the time is right we’ll replace it.   Nothing worse then rushing to buy a new piece of furniture and regret it later.  Better to take your time and look around for a new piece that will fit all of your families needs.

After Living Room

This sofa came from our cottage we use to have up in St. Anne’s and relocated to this house after we sold the place.  It’s come in handy but the big cushions had seen better days.  So for the time being we ditched the old ones and filled up the back with pillows we had before.  Not what I would buy if I was starting over but somehow they go and fit all together.

First time we were able to have the Christmas tree in front of the window and be able to walk around it!  Drapes come next but that again will have to wait till after Christmas… Loving the new gallery wall

After Living Room

Can’t wait to fill the space with Christmas memories and hang out with our kids and family over the holidays.  This was my Christmas present and couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.  What’s next in your house to redo.  Are you planning on redoing your favourite room in the house let me know in the comments below.

Dear Santa all I want for Christmas is to have new wheels installed on the ottoman lol

Who’s up for a Christmas movie or a nice relaxing game?!
