“The Boy’s (our son) room makeover”
Sad, sad, sad Before’s. Poor kid was living in a haphazard state of affairs in his room. Since we bought the house back in 2006 the paint colour has never been changed. Now falling off the walls and looking quite messy. It was time to tackle his room and give him something that suited him more then just the mish mash of things thrown together. The whole idea was to give him the larger room since he was getting older and needed a more grown up space. That’s when I decided to do the ol’ switch a rooo. He was going into the larger room and his sister was taking over his old room. Here’s the BEFORE pictures.
The armour had it’s day and would eventually get sold so the only thing that was being kept in his room was his bed; side table and desk. His dresser was being moved to another room and the armour was being put up for sale. Loved that armoire, hated to sell it.
Now lets 'CLEAR OUT THE ROOM....' and view it empty so we can see the possibilities.
Always loved this paint colour by Benjamin Moore so I decided not to change it. Give me a second I'll find the name of it lol Fairview Taupe HC-85
The old farmhouse country table that was handed down from my mother is now going to be my son’s desk. The other desk, that I received from my second cousin. (trading and giving away furniture runs in the family ) is now placed in the room. The other two floating shelves, those are anchored in like a son of gun and are NOT coming down so taking them out was out of the question and besides it’s perfect shelving for all his books and collectibles. Great height for kids too so they can see all their things and change them up as they get older.
Good times … loading stuff back in and organized to boot
Here was the the other reason I didn’t change the paint colour on the wall. These curtains were the ‘jumping off’ point and went well with the brown, orange & black design theme.
When he’s studying he can check out his favourite surfing picture 🙂
Did you notice the girly chandelier in the photo. … left over from his sisters room. Can’t have that! Must find a better one for him. Off to Winners to find table lamps and a ceiling fixture; spotted these…
One or two lamps… decisions, decisions
Also found these to replace the old chandelier. Which one would you pick?
One more before picture and that’s the closet. Now that he didn’t have a dresser we needed something for his clothes. We ended up purchasing two of these folding cloth drawer shelves. Works great and just fits over the hanging bar with velcro. You can get them at Walmart for a song.
Here’s the ‘After’
Next morning! Now lets see the room all put together. Bed is made, furniture is in place. Shelves are put together with all his books and collectibles. Pictures are hung on the wall and his new chandelier is hung from the ceiling. It’s really starting to look like a big boy room. Ok maybe I should say a young man’s room, he’s 11 so almost a tween. Hopefully this will last him a couple of years. His love of soccer is represented in his ‘ Messie’ poster above his bed. His books, trophies and future collectibles can be found on the shelves. Ever changing as he changes his interests. Of course a room is never fully done but for now this is what we have. Onward!!
Here’s the final reveal!
The blanket at the end of the bed is from Cape Breton Curiosity Shop in downtown Sydney and the fabulous Orange Retro Eiffel Chair is from Wicker Emporium. The farmhouse country table originally purchased in Ottawa works double duty; as a desk and beside table. Duvet cover is from Ikea …
Of course the room is never done. Here are some accessories I found at WINNERS that would complement the room even more …
Pouffs in grey and bright yellow for extra seating….
Bright orange pillow for the bed…
And one of my picks for the rug to ground out the space! This one found at Home Depot.
