How to Repurpose a Antique Postmasters piece of Furniture
As it stands right now this antique pine postmasters cabinet is being used in the living room. The cubbies provide so much valuable storage space its handy for various items. Here it was first being used as a toy container for ‘bits’ and ‘pieces’ and ‘what the heck does this belong to’ storage unit. Originally, used for sorting mail back in the day; it was bought in Ontario and passed down to me from my parents. I always loved this piece and when I was in the design phase for planning the kitchen remodel I thought, this could be used as a Upper cabinet. Since there will only be two upper cabinets in the remodel, this will really bring some character to the overall look of the project. Lucky for us the dimensions fit perfectly.
Can’t wait to see it on the wall!
Do you have a piece of furniture that has outlived it’s use.. as in look below.
If you have younger kids you know all about the odd bits and left over pieces from so many toys. Since my kids are older it’s not so much of an issue. With that, I have transformed it into housing all the glasses and mugs from the kitchen. The contents of these two cupboards had to find a new home and the postmaster cabinet is the perfect solution!
More tea cups; mugs and glasses to be relocated…
The collection of beer glasses fit so nicely on their sides to fill the first two rows. And still lots of storage at the bottom.
Tada … everything fits and the items that aren’t used everyday are still easily accessible.
A sneak peek at one of the design elements for the new kitchen. One Postmasters Cabinet soon to be hung on the wall.
I LOVE IT 🙂
Takeaway Tip: Just because a piece of furniture had one use don't discount thinking of new ways to use it for something else. In this case 'Toy Storage' turned into 'Kitchen Storage'
