It’s not the START and it’s not the FINAL but things are shaping up to look a lot more like a finished kitchen. Not counting the weekends it’s been almost two weeks since we started our Kitchen renovations. I can almost smell the cooking! Here’s whats gone on since my last update. As you see all the appliances have been installed, the wall oven, the sink, faucet and cooktop are all in place. Very exciting. It was nice over the weekend to be able to cook in the kitchen.
Progress with Part Two of our Kitchen Series
Our Ikea cabinets are completely installed and with everything back in place in the drawers. Woohoo! What a fun night I had putting things back in place and organizing. Although staying up till 1:00am left me feeling tired, it was wonderful to pull open the drawers and find the cutlery effortlessly this morning. Don’t underestimate the power of easily finding what you need when you need it. With the new pull out drawers and self closing cabinets they are down right dreamy 🙂 …
The cabinet is now attached to the far left of the kitchen, the trim and cap still be put on. Look how much more counter space there is!! This was one of the things on my wish list; MORE counter space…. {{:-))) … me with a big ol’ grin or a double chin however you look at lol

This is really going to change the functionality of the kitchen. Two people will be able to comfortable work in this new configuration. Before it was tight and cramped with little counter space and now looky looky….. (Is that even a word lol…. )
The counter space in the new design is ‘all that and a bag of chips’. As we say here in Cape Breton.
I decided on the grout colour ‘silver’ … blends nicely with the flecks in the ‘Arctic Snow’ countertop. Pewter looked nice as well but silver on the left sealed the deal.
Wall oven tucked into the lower cabinets provides the much needed space above to spread out while your cooking. Yeah!
Once the oven went in and I looked at the beautiful antique pulls I purchased originally but they just didn’t quite jive with the handle on the stove so I switched it up and got the stainless steel pulls instead. They have a classic clean look to them and still fit nicely into the overall design. There will be other opportunities later to bring that Antique brass into the rest of the kitchen.
Don’t get me wrong I love the mix of warm metals with cool metals but the curve in the Antique Brass wasn’t meshing with the oven handle as much as I would have liked once I saw the handles in person, so I changed my mind and got the more contemporary stainless steel pulls below.
Two other elements into the design scheme is the stainless steel Ikea Vimmern Kitchen faucet with the handspray. The bar swivels out of the way to either side to provide more room and has the two button spray option.
Works like a charm, I love it!
So let me ask “Do you like one bowl or a two bowl sink???” I chose the one bowl for the ease of doing big pots and the overall look with having just one bowl. I think for this design it works well.
Take away Tip: If you get Granite, Quartz, Wood, Marble, Glass, or Concrete, Soapstone, Travertine countertops; you have the option of doing a under-mount sink. In our case we got the laminate so you have to stick with the drop in sink option shown above. Under mount will not have the lip on the top of the bowl. Good to know before you purchase your sink.
Stay tuned more to come!
