“The Barn” Getting Organized

“The Barn” Trash to Treasure Getting Organized

STEP FIVE:  Time for getting organized and loading pieces into place.  Remember that old table that was in the back of the barn, the one that someone said ‘that’s junk why would you want to keep that’.  Well here’s why it’s the perfect size to separate the space in the barn.  Although the shape and size was perfect the appearance didn’t look so hot.

So looking for a inexpensive way to cover it I found some burlap; that’s used to cover bushes in the fall; turned out to be a really great solution!  For about $30 I was able to cover the table with the material perfectly draped over the top.  The table was bowed so then I placed the old window ontop of the table.  It’s a extra layer for counterspace.  Plus it hid the fact that the table underneath wasn’t quite perfectly level.  The next thing was getting a piece of glass to put on the table over the burlap and also I piece of glass to place on top of the old window.   The two pieces of glass cost about $300 but so worth it. First shot so you can see the texture of the burlap and the second shot shows the glass on top.  Love those antique glass doorknobs as well.

Under the table is used for storage.  Another piece I reused or reinvented was the drawers from the tall cabinet that was also in the back of the barn.  The cabinet went elsewhere but the drawers I kept and attached wheels under the four corners so that I could roll it out and access materials easily.  I have three of these drawers under the table.  One for painting supplies, one for technology wires and the other for misc 🙂

It’s funny how things work out. See the back of the studio with the boards already in place this is the exact length of a pair of drapes I have been holding onto for quite some time. I won’t tell you how long cause you’ll think I’m nuts but I always thought, one day they will come in handy and low and behold they did!! They are the exact right length to cover my makeshift fabric wall.  Gotta love when that happens.  I love luxury but I also love making something out of nothing.   The other thing I did was go to my local plumbing supplier and purchase elbow joints, circle flange and long pipes cut to size to make the rods for hanging my fabric books.  ‘S’ hooks were used to hang on the rods then the books hung from the ‘S’ hooks.  Then when not in use I can just close the drapes and they are out of site until I need them.
